An introduction to Toshiba TEC Approved Thermal Transfer Ribbons
Toshiba have more than 30 years’ experience in the thermal transfer printing industry, and in addition to manufacturing some of the best quality thermal transfer printers on the market they also supply high quality branded thermal transfer ribbons.
Toshiba ribbons are available in a wide variety of grades and sizes to suit every possible application, from mass-produced short-term produce label printing to long shelf life, exceptionally durable industrial product identification.

Why choose Toshiba TEC ribbons?
Genuine Toshiba ribbons have been designed to work with the full Toshiba printer range and will ensure your printer operates to its full potential, giving the best possible print quality whilst maximising the life of the printhead. Before receiving a certificate of approval from Toshiba each ribbon grade undergoes rigorous testing on a variety of receiving materials to ensure compatibility and reliability in real world production environments.
Whilst there are cheaper compatible ribbons available, these inevitably prove to be a false economy. Compatible ribbons produce a less dense image and the back coating, which is used to protect the printhead from abrasion, is invariably ineffective. The printhead on any thermal transfer printer is by far the most expensive consumable part, and genuine Toshiba ribbons have a back coating specially formulated to protect the printhead.
It is also important to note that only Toshiba branded ribbons are approved for use in Toshiba printers
, and the use of non-branded compatible ribbons will invalidate the printhead warranty. For example, when using genuine Toshiba ribbons in a B-SX4/5T or any B-EX range printer the printhead is warrantied for 100 kilometres of print or 6 months, whichever is sooner. By comparison there is no warranty whatsoever if compatible ribbons are used, making the use of compatibles an expensive strategy if the printhead fails prematurely.

Wax
• Prints onto a wide range of paper label stocks
• Sharp printed images with good levels of blackness
• Extensively used to print labels for short life span products such as fresh fruit and vegetables, fast foods, bakery products etc.
Wax/Resin
• Greater smudge and scratch resistance than wax ribbons
• Print onto a wide variety of papers and matt synthetics
• Ideal for printing delivery and long product life labels
Resin
• Excellent resistance to weather, heat, chemical and solvent exposure
• Designed to print onto gloss paper and most synthetic materials
• ideally suited to industrial environments
Speciality Resin
• Offers the greatest resistance to heat, solvent and chemical exposure
• Superior mechanical and scratch resistance
• Ideal for the auto and aviation industries
Textile Resin
• Specially designed to print onto poly satin and nylon textile garments
• Excellent resistance to washing, dry cleaning and ironing processes
